Do I Need Professional High School Senior Pictures?

Writer: Karen BartosKaren Bartos

Senior year of high school is here for you child whether you are ready for it or not. Face it and embrace it. It is a milestone. It is a year of exciting lasts...and firsts. You have prepared for this year for the past 12+ years if you include preschool.

As a mom of 3 grown adult children, I'm going to be real, honest and raw with you in this post. I'm gonna speak to you from one momma to another momma.

I have a favorite saying - "The days are long, but the years are short." The older I get, the more I understand the saying.

When you are in the thick of raising a family and juggling schedules (I remember we had a color coded giant calendar on the wall), it seems things will always be this way of having kids in and out the door with their busy schedules. You take it for granted that life will always stay the same.

Until it doesn't.

They graduate and go off to college or community college, and not only does life change for you as a parent, it changes for your child. It is a new chapter for everyone with learning lessons along the way as you each discover more about who you are (sometimes, moms have to re-discover who they are).

Chances are they will meet someone who steals their heart, and although you are still in their heart, they have made room for one more. Before you know it, wedding bells are in the air, and there will be talk of hiring a professional wedding photographer.

You might be asking, where are you going with this, Karen? Stick with me.

Hiring a professional senior high school photographer to seize a few moments in time is critical if you want to remember who they were at that moment in their life AND in your life. The next time you will have professional pictures taken of your child will likely be on their wedding day. They will have changed significantly in that time period and you will have as well.

You will have grown as a parent navigating what life looks like without your child at home, and your child will also have flourished into a mature grown man or woman. Getting professional portraits done of your senior honors this process for both of you.

I'll go one more layer of getting personal with you.

As a professional high school senior photographer, I took our son Arden's senior pictures. I captured a time in his life and our lives that was monumental in shaping who he was and will become.

Fast forward to when he married the love of his life and best friend. They hired a professional photographer to capture another milestone. No, I didn't take the photos, although I had plenty of people ask me if I was going to be their photographer. I wanted to enjoy the day, and besides, I am a high school senior photographer, not a wedding photographer. Two totally different skill sets.

They say a pictures worth a thousand words, and I couldn't agree more.

Do you see the change from a young man to a grown man? Same person, but different times in his life. I'm beyond thankful to have these milestones captured. These pictures will be a constant reminder of the time we had him at home as well as our journey of raising him to be the wonderful young man and husband he is today. (Pass the tissues, please).

Do you want the milestone of senior year documented for you and your senior? Great, let's chat about how to make it happen. Simply fill out the "Contact Karen" option and I'll be in touch.
